Abbey lodge has existed as a care home since 1981 having been renovated from a private home. The care home is managed day-to-day by Elizabeth Bown who lives locally. She takes a highly active role in the day-to-day running of Abbey Lodge and is personally on hand to provide support to residents and staff. The care home has strong links with various community and church groups. Many of its residents come from Hythe and the surrounding areas and we pride ourselves on having an excellent reputation in the area which has been developed and strengthened over three decades. Liz has achieved Level NVQ 5 qualification in care management and is also a NVQ Assessor. She takes pride in training and leading staff in the ethos that she believes care should be provided and this has directly attributed to the reputation Abbey Lodge has.
Liz has owned and personally run Abbey Lodge day-to-day since October 1996 and as a family we lived at Abbey Lodge until 2000. The whole family took a very active daily role in the life of the home. In 2008 we renovated and extended the home, which improved the range of services which we could offer and increased Abbey Lodge to 23 bedrooms.
We believe the environment and care of the home is defined by us and our philosophy, our experience as a family makes Abbey Lodge a unique environment which offers residents a lovely setting to enjoy living their later years.
Our sister home Place Farm House is situated in the tranquil settings of Patcham, on the outskirts of Brighton, East Sussex. Place Farm isa 19 bed residential home managed day-to-day by Liz’s son, Andrew Bown who lives locally in Brighton. Place Farm has existed as a care home for 25 years and has its own unique character with a strong reputation in the heart of the local community. Place Farm House has a very similar ethos and approach to Abbey Lodge and the care we provide is underpinned by two decades of experience from running Abbey Lodge.

The phrases “technology” and “care home” may seem counter-intuitive but we very much strive to run the home with technology in mind because it free’s up time for our staff to spend with the residents and improves the working lives of our staff to enhance morale and motivation. Technology and a “paperless” approach is at the heart of the care we provide at Abbey Lodge and we use an online care system which gives our carers the flexibility to provide bespoke care to the residents at their bedside, rather than having to rely on paper care records which are bulky and sometimes poorly maintained.
